Nine institutions kickoff inaugural Career Services Workshop
Eighteen career development professionals representing nine institutions across Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda participated in the inaugural Career Strategy Workshop facilitated by the Education Collaborative.
Ho Technical University equips 500 Students with Career Ready Skills
Following the Career Strategy Workshop, Ho Technical University’s goals were to establish a dedicated career services unit, separate from their counseling unit, refining and implement a soft skills training program while digitalizing the internship process. Led by Edem K. Honu- Ag Director Career Guidance and Counselling, the team at Ho University has taken proactive steps by organizing two impactful soft skills training and CV writing workshops. These sessions attracted an average of 260 students, with a notable majority receiving trainning in CV writing. The university has successfully transitioned all internship programs to an online platform, providing students with convenient access to various opportunities. This shift has significantly increased efficiency and elevated the overall quality of career services offered to the student body.
A year on, Ho Technical University, through support from The Education Collaborative’s Career Fair Initiative, organized its inaugural career fair. The two day fair brought together about 1000 students and 16 companies from sectors including banking, telecommunications, and recruitment. Read more…
Pan-Atlantic University Hosts Career Fair in collaboration with industry partners
For Pan Atlantic University, our focus post-workshop centered on two key areas: student engagement and industry engagement. The workshop made us realize that our career center had not been intentional with its activities. We have now shifted from merely checking boxes on our programs to refining our assessments, aiming to understand the outcomes of the programs we organize. Feedback surveys shared with students now seek to answer questions such as, “Was the session useful?” and “Did the session build their confidence?” We are actively seeking input on the workshops that students would like the career center to organize.
Regarding Industry Engagement, our approach to connecting with employers for internships and job opportunities has undergone a transformation. We refined our feedback survey to gather information and insights into whether employers are impressed with our students and find them employable in the job market. Furthermore, we now approach our relationships with employers from a partnership perspective. To keep employers informed, we have developed quarterly newsletters, providing insights into career services engagement on campus. This initiative allows employers to stay updated on the valuable contributions our institution is making to prepare students for the professional world.
