Roundtable discussion 1: Improving teaching and learning in African business schools
Facilitators: Dr. Sena Agbodjah Agyepong, Head of Department of Business Administration, Ashesi University; Esther Aforley Laryea, Lecturer, Ashesi University.
Synopsis: Teaching and learning strategies involve the different methodologies and assumptions an instructor uses to ensure learning occurs. The ongoing pandemic has caused many leading academic institutions to resort to online learning. As many African institutions are new to this level of online learning, teaching and learning strategies have been greatly reimagined. The question lingers on the minds of instructors; how do we prepare students for a dynamic world of work even as we grapple with changes in teaching and learning styles? The roundtable discussion seeks to share knowledge and draw practical examples of successful techniques and measures adopted to overcome the many hurdles of online learning. The conversations range from digital learning technologies, teaching and learning support tools and other relevant subject areas. Data analysis will also be presented on how different institutions have fared with the move to online learning and what has improved and what has gotten worse. Moving forward, as the pandemic nears its end in some regions, are there considerations for a blended approach and if so, how do African business schools intend to operationalize this approach? We believe these and other topics are crucial to the body of knowledge regarding teaching and learning. The hope is that attendees will benefit from the expert contributions and practical examples to further impact their institutional policy making.
