Education Collaborative marks Entrepreneurship Month
Guided by the Entrepreneurship Community of Practice (EntCoP), March 2023 was designated ‘Entrepreneurship Month’ at The Education Collaborative. Featuring a series of virtual colloquia every Wednesday of the month, participants and stakeholders from the entrepreneurship sector were invited to share vital insights, innovative teaching methods, and cutting-edge ideas to foster entrepreneurship education across Africa. 2023 June Convening highlights commitment, growth, and shared lessons in African higher education
The 2023 June Convening brought together some 230 university executives, leaders, and industry professionals to share experiences and insights, discuss best practices, and explore strategies for enhancing higher education in Africa. Held at Ashesi University in Berekuso, and Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, the four-day event was the Collaborative’s largest gathering yet, welcoming participants from 96 institutions from 17 countries. East Africa Hub holds second regional hub convening
The 2023 East Africa Regional Hub convening brought together 88 university executives, policymakers, administrators, and industry professionals representing 10 countries and 40 institutions. Under the theme, Accelerating Entrepreneurship and Graduate Employability, this event served as a vital platform for fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and meaningful interactions.

Leveraging partnerships to improve career services for students – BIT’s journey
When Burkina Institute of Technology joined The Education Collaborative in 2020, one of the institution’s goals for the partnership was to scale its career services program to support student and graduate employability. “Our aim is that 100% of our graduates will have jobs right after graduation,” shared Susan Pertl, founder of the West African institution which opened in 2018. “Developing a robust career services program will go a long way in helping us work towards this target. By learning from and working with intuitions within The Education Collaborative, we can learn how to design an effective program.” Read More.
Peer Coaching for Career Services: Shared Experiences from the University of Cape Coast, Ashesi University, and Accra Technical University
In 2022, two large public universities, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Accra Technical University (ATU), adopted a student-driven peer-coaching model to expand their career services outreach to more students within their respective institutions. The career peer coaching model they adopted leverages student-to-student relationships to extend and scale career guidance services that otherwise, proved difficult to deliver effectively for large institutions. As an extension of the Career Services office, the program is led by student coaches called Career Peer Coaches (CPC) or Career Peer Advisors (CPA), who provide services including CV and cover letter writing and editing, and interview prep to students who otherwise may not proactively seek help from the career services office.

Nine institutions kickoff inaugural Career Services Workshop
Eighteen career development professionals representing nine institutions across Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda participated in the inaugural Career Strategy Workshop facilitated by the Education Collaborative. This two-day event provided a platform for sharing best practices, exchanging perspectives, and learning how to enhance student employability outcomes.
