Since its launch in 2017, The Education Collaborative has worked to reshape higher education across Africa, fostering a new generation of leaders equipped with the skills, ethics, and entrepreneurial drive to create positive change. Entrepreneurship is a central focus of the Collaborative’s mission, especially in equipping Africa’s youth. By creating an environment where students can learn, start businesses, and grow, we aim to provide a strong platform for young Africans to thrive. This focus aligns with the vast opportunities emerging across Africa’s educational landscape.
With Africa’s youth population expected to double by 2050, the need to prepare young Africans for leadership in a rapidly evolving world has never been more urgent. Rose Dodd, Executive Director of The Education Collaborative, captures this vision: “We all recognize the significant youth population growth in Africa; we see it in our universities, our offices, and in our cities. Africa is getting younger by the day, and to unlock this demographic dividend, Africa must create 12 million jobs by the end of this decade. The sheer size of people we have to effectively prepare for this future and the pace at which we need to do it is impossible for any one university or institution to go at it alone. To move this needle, we need universities to work together, driven by a shared set of outcomes for educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders. This is the vision that drives The Education Collaborative.”
This year, as we celebrate Entrepreneurship Week 2024, we’re excited to highlight some of our key initiatives that bring this vision to life:
Key Entrepreneurship Programs
Entrepreneurship Ecosystems Development Project
This project collaborates with African higher education institutions to build effective entrepreneurship ecosystems. Drawing insights from successful models like Ashesi University, it aims to create a blueprint for formal entrepreneurship education that will guide institutions and inspire policy across the continent.

Entrepreneurship Community of Practice (CoP)
This community brings together educators and practitioners to explore strategies for guiding students toward successful ventures and problem-solving careers. Through the CoP, institutions gain knowledge to foster environments that encourage innovation and prepare students to tackle real-world challenges.
With these programs in place, The Education Collaborative is helping to shape a future where young Africans are equipped to be ethical, innovative, and resilient leaders. As we celebrate Entrepreneurship Week 2024, we look forward to the achievements these young entrepreneurs will bring to their communities and to the continent.
