The Education Collaborative will hold its East Africa Convening from the 10th to 11th of October, 2022, in Kigali, Rwanda. Hosted by Kepler College, Rwanda, the convening will be under the theme “Accelerating Entrepreneurship and Graduate Employability for Regional Development.”

“Higher Education Institutions have the responsibility of developing and growing human capital with all the necessary knowledge, skills, and values necessary to drive all sectors of development,” shared Lizzie Chongoti, Director of East Region hub of the Education Collaborative. “At the same time, Africa’s population continues to grow rapidly, with projections indicating that by 2050, 50% of the population will be youthful. As such, we must develop relevant and meaningful solutions in tandem with the growing population, its consequences, and subsequent emerging needs. Most importantly, there must be some concerted effort, and the Education Collaborative’s Annual Convening program  offers a platform where we can hold meaningful discussions and explore relevant solutions.”

The two-day event will serve as a platform to connect university leaders, higher-ed administrators, and regulators from across East Africa.

Attendees will also share and learn best practices, tools, and resources, and develop networks and collaborations that will help scale the impact of the work within their respective institutions.

“As a region-specific Annual Convening, the forum will be more targeted and relevant to the needs of the East African region,” Ms. Chongoti shared. “This will also be an opportunity for new member institutions to understand how they can practically engage with existing member institutions.”

The East Africa Convening follows the first Francophone Convening and also serves as the second in a series of regionally-focused platforms for member institutions within the same geographic region to engage with one another to address development within their context.
