Panel: The Future of Ethical Leadership in Africa

June 16, 2022 @ 11:15 am - 12:45 pm

Moderator: Patrick Awuah, President & Founder, Ashesi University, Ghana

Africa is poised for explosive growth in its population over the next three decades, with researchers projecting a doubling of the total population to 2 billion+ by 2050 and a tripling of persons living in urban settings. This will require significant development of highly skilled workers, and leaders who are able to organize the industrial, social, and institutional ventures to address human, environmental, and sustainability needs. This panel brings higher education leaders in conversation with recognized leaders from government, private, and regulatory sectors to critically examine the role of ethics and African values in approaches to developing leaders capable of shaping sustainable African futures. Questions that will guide the discussions include:

  • What are the pressing ethical and leadership challenges facing Africa’s future?
  • What are our uniquely African approaches for developing ethical leaders?
  • What role should African higher education play in preparing young people for these future challenges?
  • How can we use accountable systems to develop ethical leaders?

Panelists: Panelists will be leaders from public agencies, higher education regulators, and African continental organizations in Africa.
